MS. CATHERINE AKINS

Catherine Akins is a Development Specialist with 37 years experience in the forprofit and non-profit industries including 13 years as an Insurance Broker, specializing for 8 years in Commercial Insurance Sales (non package). Catherine studied Business Administration at Seneca College. With a fervent entrepreneurial spirit Catherine launched her career in the Fashion Industry. Her training on the road covering Ontario provided the groundwork and training to launch a phenomenally successful career in Sales/Development. Since 2017 Catherine has served as the Development Officer for the Norfolk County Agricultural Society.

Catherine believes in giving back to her community and is currently involved with many community projects including 100 Women Who Care Norfolk. Catherine serves as the Vice-President of the Simcoe and District Chamber of Commerce.

Catherine was elected to the Nova Mutual Board of Directors in March 2021 to fill a vacant one-year term and was appointed to the Executive committee as 2nd Vice Chair. In addition to fulfilling her role and responsibilities as a Director and Board Committee member, Catherine enthusiastically accepted the role of Legislative Affairs Representative for Nova Mutual and has attended the OMIA Legislative Affairs Roundtable. Her extensive community contacts and public relations experience are important assets in fulfilling this role. In the past year Catherine has completed all currently available OMIA education courses that are offered to Mutual insurance Directors and is in the process of completing the Professional Board of Directors designation.

Catherine resides in Simcoe with her husband Doug Akins and their two adorable dogs.
