
MR. ERIC HARROP

Eric is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA/CMA) as well as a professional Agrologist (P.Ag.) and has a deep understanding and background in the finance and business world. Eric graduated from the University of Guelph and started his career with BMO in the early 1980s, receiving his CPA/CMA designation in 1992. Eric recently retired from BMO after a career of 37 years working in the investment space, commercial and agricultural credit and leading a team of commercial and agricultural lenders.
In terms of specific experience with the Mutual insurance industry, Eric has been on the Board of Directors of Nova Mutual since 2020. He has chaired the Investment and Risk Committee (previously the Investment Committee) for 2 years and has been a member of the Audit Committee, Nominating Committee, CEO Search Committee and OMIA Group B representative. Eric has recently completed the required courses to obtain his OMIA Directors Certification. He has also recently received his CRM (CPA Certificate in Risk Management Fundamentals) designation.
As a Board member, Eric prides himself on working well with others, always listening, focusing on understanding and when required challenging proposals and ideas. He considers himself a team player and works toward building consensus and supports Nova’s mission and values. He is open-minded and tries to take all opinions into account and work towards mutually agreeable conclusions and decisions.
Eric is also quite active in the community and has been a Board member for the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Canadian Mental Health Association for 7 years serving as the Treasurer. He is also a volunteer with the local soup kitchen and emergency food delivery service.
Eric and his wife Chris reside in Simcoe. He and his wife have two wonderful adult children. Eric also enjoys, among other activities, cycling, swimming and running. He recently completed his first full Ironman race in 2022.
