Random Acts of Kindness

Today, we’re celebrating Random Acts Of Kindness Day with a few fun surprises. We are working with four of our amazing members to show our appreciation to several different community places and projects.

Our first stop was The Apple Place to get some delicious local apples (and say hi to Norfolk Juice Co. while we were there!). We donated them to Lynndale Heights Public School’s snack program, providing a nutritious snack to support learning.

While chatting with a couple of Grade 7 students, we learned about a few different kindness initiatives they were working on in the school, and community. They recently hosted a Cerealously Awesome fundraiser, collecting boxes of cereal and pairs of socks for Church Out Serving’s new warming center. They also created a kindness chain, where students could add links after doing a kind deed. This bright and colourful chain is hanging proudly, stretching around the front lobby.

Next, we went to Blue Elephant to grab some Brew’ed Biscuits – healthy, all natural dog treats made using spent grain from their brewery. These sustainable snacks are packed with protein and fiber, great for the environment, and pet approved! Then, we were off to the Simcoe & District Humane Society to donate them and meet some adorable furry friends. We learned about some of the services they offer, how much they rely on community support, and different ways to help.

Then, we were off to Waterford to see our friends at Ritzy Cakes for some tasty treats. With such an incredible selection it was hard to choose, so we went with a variety of cupcakes, donuts, and cookies. We brought them over to Golden Pond Retirement Living to surprise the residents and staff. We got to chat with Renee, co-owner and Director of Fun to learn how she spreads kindness everyday to the residents. We also got to meet sisters Carol and Janet who shared some great ways to spread kindness.

Our last stop was to Firefly & Fox, our favourite local bookstore, to pick out some beautiful books to sneak into a local Little Free Library. (Let us know if you spot them!)

Thanks so much to everyone involved for helping us to spread a little kindness!
